American Appetites

Yesterday I was inspired to finally try my hand at something I've been planning to make forever: matzo ball soup.

So I start the process, planning to have it for lunch by myself -- not quite ready to make someone else the guinea pig on this yet.  Because some of the steps have to be timed, I looked at the clock. That's when it dawned on me that I don't have that long before I have to start dinner.  I was cooking for my friend Shawna, trying out a new recipe for pork chops.

I decided to add my new soup to the menu of my dinner with Shawna.

It took a second for the incongruity of it to hit me. Matzo ball soup and pork chops. Cooked by an agnostic Hindu.

Welcome to America.
